City flags lowered to honour the late Mr. Douglas Aubrey Moodie

Ottawa - The flags at City Hall and Ben Franklin Place will be lowered to half-mast from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, the day of the funeral for the late Mr. Douglas Aubrey Moodie. Known as the “Father of Nepean,” Mr. Moodie joined Nepean Council as the acclaimed deputy reeve in 1950 and served in that role until becoming reeve four years later. He was a member of Nepean Council from 1973 to 1976. In 1958, during his term as reeve, lot levies were introduced for housing developments in the township. He also lobbied for the creation of the Queensway-Carleton Hospital and sat on its first board of directors.

“On behalf of the City of Ottawa, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Aubrey Moodie,” said Mayor Larry O’Brien. “Our City will be forever grateful for the Father of Nepean’s dedication, vision and involvement which has left an incredible impact on us all.”

Mr. Moodie passed away at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital on May 17, 2008, at the age of 99.
