Statement from Ottawa Mayor Larry O’Brien
Statement from Ottawa Mayor Larry O’Brien
December 29, 2009
I join all residents of the City of Ottawa in sorrow over the tragic death of Constable Eric Czapnik. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. We hope this will support them in the difficult days ahead.
Our community is in shock at this senseless crime. Cst. Czapnik’s killing gives us pause to reflect on the dangers our first responders face daily on our behalf.
This was the first homicide of an Ottawa police officer since 1983. The killing of an officer in the service of protecting our public safety is universally condemned, and our city is united in rejecting this violence and supporting the men and women in uniform.
I have instructed that the flags be lowered to half staff in recognition of this tragedy and in Cst. Czapnik’s memory.

Indeed, this senseless slaying is just so sad. This cruel act happened in our Ottawa and that alone is a strong grief.
The slain officers family and friends must be so shocked and heartbroken.
My thoughts and prayers are for all of us at this horrible time. Let us all pause for a few minutes and reflect on this terrible tragedy and ask what we can do as members of society to prevent any such pain from ever being inflicted again. As time goes on, we will learn more of this event. Let us learn from it in order to prevent.

Hard to believe a rcmp officer committed this offence.Stabbed in the neck while sitting at the civic.Just a sad story.
Hey how is that goal of getting ottawa being the first wifi city in na america? Philadelphia fumbled that ball.
Heard we would do something about this years ago and somebody got paid a lot of money. Never heard anything else after that.
When the maggots show up with this green box initiative, the mayor will require something to fall back on.
We can do wifi city wide for less then the last guy that got paid and never did the job.
You have our email.
Happy new year!
