4. Frank Clair Stadium and the Civic Centre
These facilities will be retained on site and enhanced.

This is the biggest mistake the city is making in the redesign of Landsdowne park. This city, the capital of Canada, is impossible to get *enough* quality convention centre space. EVEN when the Downtown CC is completed there will not be enough. It is sad that we loose to Vancouver, Toronto and even Halifax for quality, money making conventions. I believe this "space" would serve the community and city much more by having this changed to a convention centre. I don't even know if this was ever considered and am quite surprised we would waste this quality space this prime land for using iftsporadically when it can be used consistantly, year round on conventions that far more benefit the city.

I rarely send in political comments but I can no longer be silent about the flawed process around developing Ladsdowne Park. I am appalled at the way this has been handled from the onset. This was never a fair, open process nor a proper public discussion. City Hall is entering into a for profit, business deal with gifted, public recreational lands. Lansdowne should be a park for public use and enjoyment as it was gifted. I do not live in the Glebe and even if I did, the glebe does need green space and they are correct in demanding it. I have a great solution but my unsolicited suggestions will never be addressed. I am only a taxpayer, called upon to pay for the cities endless bad decisions.

Tear down the concrete eyesore. How many times does Ottawa have to demonstrate that it is not interested, translate to will not by tickets, to a team? Plant grass and trees and flowers. Let people picnic, ski, walk and enjoy simple, undeveloped green space. We do not need more stores, it's a bad place for a hotel and there are more than enough expensive condos being built. Everything about this deal and it is a back room deal, reeks from its very onset. Shame on the sleazy process. I read the agreement and it is appalling, only the developers are protected, receiving rights to prime land, free and with little if none, financial liability. This council and mayor have no right to give/sell this land. You were entrusted to protect it for public use and enjoyment and you are breaking that trust. I will keep a record of everyone who votes in support and they will never have my vote again for any public office. Shame on everyone involved with this.

In this case, there is nothing wrong with accepting the least expensive , option D.

It has all the elements needed . Combine it with Claiborne's excellent design for the stadium, and hopefully a great design for the commercial component, and Lansdowne will indeed become a great place.

Hi Larry, Sounds like a great meeting. I was lined up last fall to go with a technology delegation to China - the focus was on electric power, in particular, smartgrid distribution technologies. At the 11th hour, a family matter kept me homeside.

A few years back, I was involved on a CIDA project with Vietnam.....made a couple of trips to Hanoi. First opportunity was focusing on university programming in the area of software engineering and project management. Second was related to business technology development.

Asia's an exciting place......

In response to Richard Hudon's comments - I think that most people would agree that the family structure was far better in days gone by when the typical family unit consisted of one bread winner ( generally the husband and father ) and one parent who stayed at home ( generally the wife and mother ). Society's morals and values seemed far better in those days.

Today, for example, when a child enters the education system - the teachers know very very quickly whether that child is a child of divorce or not. Too many children these days have way too many parents !

I sincerely believe that women have a place in the world first as mothers and homemakers in a stable family unit and our society has striven to destroy and diminish this role to the detriment of the family. Yes, women have other talents aside from being the only part of the male-female dichotomy to be able to carry a fertilized egg to term and bring a child into this world. That is what the creator of all things has primarily created her for, as well as being the companion of the father of their children. Ever since the advent of radical feminism, men and women, has taken hold in our country, we have seen a dramatic increase in divorces (thanks to easy divorce laws, abortion (thanks to Mr. Henry Morgentaler and his supporters), and youthful unmarried motherhood (thanks to liberalization of morality) and countless other ill effects brought on by the liberaliztion of social mores and standards of decency.

It is my contention that the lack of education for and fostering of the family, homemaking, motherhood and fatherhood need to be reversed against the din of the so-called "politically correct" approach of liberalizing everything to the detriment of motherhood and the family. Men and women of good will need to take a stand against the minority position that motherhood and childbearing are some kind of disease to be stamped out at all cost. The only thing that this evil needs to continue to grow and prosper is for good people to do nothing. If we continue to ignore the obvious damage that our current socio-political and economic approach to family, motherhood and childbearing we will continue to reap nothing but grief and economic hardship.

How much of these tax increases go into the pockets of city councilors, the transit unions, other municipal employees, etc? Why not cut all municipal employee salaries and reduce their benefits to fill the budget gap? You, after all, work for us the taxpayer, and given the "economic hardship" everybody should operate within their means.

Mayor O'Brien,

As my representative at City Hall I request that you stop the transit cuts proposed in Budget 2010, specifically combining Route 88 with Route 8. I rely on this service every day. Why am I paying more for less?
